I began April 16, 2007 running the Boston Marathon — what I believed would be the most important race of my life. But when I crossed the finish line and the most horrible news possible was told to me — that my eldest brother, Jeremy, had been murdered — it was then that I realized the most difficult race of my life had only begun.

A year later, my siblings, boyfriend and I left Virginia, where Jeremy’s life was taken, to travel on our bicycles to California. We wanted to explore the outdoors Jeremy had loved so much, to travel across North America and to meet people just as he would have done, to honor his memory, to strengthen our bond as a family, and, if possible, to find some peace.

This is my story...
